Ranbir Kapoor’s latest movie, “Animal ,” is sparking debate among movie buffs, not only among the audience but also among Bollywood members. The movie has been a blockbuster and broken various box office records.
However, the movie has become talk of town for its misogynistic elements and disrespectful treatment towards women. The glorification of toxic masculinity is engendering many debates. In a recent interview, popular director and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap said that the movie ‘is doing
something good’ because it has made people talk about feminism.
While talking to OTT Play at the Kolkata International Film Festival, Anurag represented his point by saying, “You cannot force responsibility on anyone. People take responsibility for themselves or they don’t. How many people went and watched a film that you considered to be feminist? Only a handful of people watch them and underline if it was a real feminist film or a pseudo-feminist film. A film like Animal has galvanised more feminists in this country than any other feminist film. It has created more discussion around misogyny than any other film. So it is doing something good .”
He also added, “You need a provocateur in a society for people to understand. More people were taught feminism because of Animal and the discussions around it. Why are you scared of a provocateur? We are educated and learned people. Why are we afraid of someone who provokes us? I think being provoked is a good thing. I have always tried to make films to make people uncomfortable, as a filmmaker. When I made Ugly, I wanted people to go back and not sleep that night, “. This shows that he thinks that Animal has become a source of feminism for the concurrent world.
The movie Animal has an ensemble cast, including Rashmika Mandanna , Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol and new national crush of India Tripti Dimri in the lead roles. It displays the relationship between an unavailable father and an obsessed son who has made his father his ideal.
Ranbir becomes vengeful when something attacks his father or family, for that matter, and he tries to play an alpha male who takes refuge in violence to provide protection to people he loves. The movie was released in theatres worldwide on December 1, 2023, and has earned a whopping ₹717.46 crore.
