2022 has been a year of some enthralling performances and content on the OTT platforms. One cannot just stay glued to the silver screen and rule the Hindi web series out of the equation. Spanning between Panchayat season 2 and Delhi Crime season 2, let us have a look at 12 such web series that took the viewership by storm.
Panchayat: 2
Panchayat 2 is one of the most loved and appreciated web series of 2022. It’s a sequel to Panchayat , which was initially released in 2020. The amount of popularity this series has amassed in just two seasons is unbelievable. Starring Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta, Raghubir Yadav, Chandan Roy, Satish Ray, and Pankaj Jha, this comedy-drama series is directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra.
The plot of Panchayat 2 deals with the story of Abhishek (Jitendra Kumar), an engineer by degree who has failed to hunt for a suitable job. Instead, he landed in a remote village in Uttar Pradesh and took up the job of a Secretary at the Panchayat office. The series depicts his daily struggles in the village, with the villagers, and their politics.

Aashram: 3
After the success of the first two seasons of Aashram, Bobby Deol led Aashram, the third season returned this year on MX player original in June. Directed by Prakash Jha, Aashram is a crime drama web series that also stars Aaditi Pohankar, Anupria Goenka, Darshan Kumaar, Chandan Roy, Sanya, Adhyayan Suman, Vikram Kochhar, Tridha Choudhury, and Tushar Pandey.
The plotline of the current season is based around Pammi Pahelwan and how she tries to save her life from Nirala Baba by taking up the stiff challenge of standing against him and revealing how he is a sexual predator under the garb of a self-proclaimed god.
Four More Shots Please: 3
Watched extensively, Four More Shots Please is a web series loved by many viewers across OTT platforms. This is the first time we encounter all-women-protagonists in a web series that stars Sayani Gupta, Bani J, Kirti Kulhari, and Maanvi Gagroo. Directed by Anu Menon and Nupur Asthana, Four More Shots Please season 3 explores the lives of these four unapologetically imperfect women and their friendship in Mumbai.
The third season aired in October this year and can be streamed on Amazon Prime Videos.
Rocket Boys
As the name suggests, the plot of Rocket Boys revolves around the lives of Homi J Bhabha and Vikram Sarbhai, who were the forerunners of the Atomic Research Centre and the Indian nuclear program, making it a biographical web series. This series is directed by Abhay Pannu and stars Jim Sarbh, Ishwar Singh, and Regina Cassandra in the lead role. The narrative reveals how Jim and Ishwar spent around 30 years developing India’s first rocket.

Delhi Crime: 2
After Season 1 made it to the front page of the dailies, Delhi Crime returned to Netflix this year in August with yet another gripping plotline of murders rocking the territory of Delhi. The crime drama series, in its opening season, covered the brutal and unforgiving Nirbhaya gang rape that rocked the entire nation. The sophomore season casts the actors predominantly from the first season, with Rasika Dugal as the new addition. Shefali Shah (DCP Vartika Chaturvedi ) carries the whole series, with able assistance from Rajesh Tailang as Inspector Bhupendra Singh.
Delhi crime Season 2 , directed by Richie Mehta and the following season by Tanuj Chopra, also lifted the Outstanding Drama Series at the Emmys, making it the first Indian web series to accomplish this feat.
Mai: A Mother’s Rage
Another Netflix Original series, directed by Anshai Lal, starred the family favorite Sakshi Tanwar among the likes of Wamiqa Gabbi, Prashant Narayanan, Raima Sen, Anant Vidhant Sharma, and Vaibhav Raj Gupta. Mai deals with the story of a wailing mother who discovers that some people are involved in the tragic death of her daughter. Rudra: The Edge Of Darkness
A remake of the British series Luther which Neil Cross directed, Rudra is a psychological crime thriller directed by Rajesh Mapuskar. Available on the Disney+ Hotstar app, the series was released in the month of March and went on to star Ajay Devgn.
As far as the basic synopsis of Rudra is concerned, DCP Rudraveer Pratap Singh (Ajay Devgn) is chasing a suspect who ends up in a comatose state in the hospital. Post probing into what has happened; he is recommissioned into the force after a gap of a few months. However, the time apart has taken a hit on him.
Gullak: 3
Gullak, in English, translates to a “piggy bank” quite literally. Streaming on the Sony LIV app, the third season of Gullak aired in the month of April. The main protagonists of this series are Jameel Khan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Vaibhav Raj Gupta, and Harsh Mayar. As far as the critics are concerned, Gullak has had mixed reviews against its name. Palash Vaswani has taken up the camera for the third season of Gullak, whereas the writing is that of Durgesh Singh.
Modern Love Mumbai
Spanning over six episodes, Modern Love Mumbai is a disjointed rom-com anthology running on Amazon Prime Videos. Based in the city of Mumbai, the various genres touched upon by the series are identity crisis, self-love, sexuality, marital challenges, etc. The different episodes of the series are directed by different directors and aired in May.
Interestingly, Modern Love Mumbai is an adaptation of an American anthology series Modern Love.
Guilty Minds
Yet again premiering on Amazon Prime Videos, Guilty Minds is a legal-drama web series written and directed by Shefali Bhushan and Jayant Digambar Somalkar. Shriya Pilgaonkar, Varun Mitra, Sugandha Garg, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, and Satish Kaushik are the lead actors in this web series that was released in the month of April. Each episode of this series deals with the subjects like artificial intelligence, rape, and water shortage and how these subjects affect the lives of the characters.
Human
In an attempt to diversify the genres of creation, Vipul Amrutlal Shah and Mozez Singh direct a web series that revolves around human drug testing and the niche of medical swindles. The series also uncovers the deep nexus between pharmaceutical companies, large private hospitals, and government officials who abuse the downtrodden in human trials for new drugs.
Airing on Hotstar, Human season 1 star Shefali Shah, Kirti Kulhari, Vishal Jethwa, and Ram Kapoor, among others.
Shoorveer
Directed by Kanishka Varma and created by Samar Khan, Shoorveer is an action thriller web series that features Regina Cassandra, Armaan Ralhan, Manish Chaudhari, Aadil Khan, Makarand Deshpande, Shivya Pathania, and Arif Zakaria in the lead roles with an ensemble cast.
The story follows Hawks, a special task force that works to respond to the imminent threat that looms large over India. Premiering on Hotstar, the series hit the platform on the 15 of July.
