Chathuram Plot The plot of Chathuram entails the story of a young woman, Selena (an applaudable portrayal given by Swasika), who is married off to an older man, Eldho (played by Alencier). Eldho, who is twice the age of Selena and is a habitual abuser, reveals his true nature to her, and she gets captured in the toxic web of this abusive marriage.
However, things change when Eldose is involved in an accident that leaves him paralyzed. Soon, a home nurse named Balthazar enters the scene and is instantly infatuated with Selena.
As the narrative of the film progresses, new characters are added to the story, and Selena begins her cunning plan to manipulate everyone in her favor. The story explores the concept of the femme fatale and the use of chess as a metaphor to depict the change in power and how the pieces (here, people) are manipulated cleverly by Selena.
At the end of the film, Eldho feels trapped, just like Selena felt at the beginning of the movie. However, the film’s second half could have been better, as it focused on Balthazar’s helplessness rather than Selena’s victory.
