The Malayalam movie Drishyam is all set to be remade in Korean. At Cannes Film Festival it was announced that the movie will be remade for the South Korean audience.
The Korean entertainment industry has been making waves internationally and India is not left untouched by the Hallyu wave. Bollywood has remade some Korean movies including hits like Ek Villain and Barfi .
The Cannes Film Festival announced a Korean remake of the hit Bollywood movie, Drishyam. Yes, you heard it right! This is the first time any Indian movie is being remade in Korean and words can’t express how proud we are.
Drishyam 2 was one of the highest grossing films of 2022, this should be enough to say how much people loved the movie, now get ready to watch it get made in Korean.
The South Korean version will star the Parasite actor, Song Kang-ho and will be directed by Kim Jee Won .
India’s Panorama Studios and South Korea’s Anthology Studios came together to announce the news at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival.
Kumar Mangal, the producer of Panorama Studios stated “I’m excited that the ‘Drishyam’ franchise is being made in Korean, a first for a Hindi film. This will not only broaden its appeal outside of India but will also put Hindi cinema on the international map. We’ve been inspired by Korean cinema for years, and now they’ve found a muse in one of our films. What could be a greater accomplishment for the Indian film industry?”
The co-founder of Anthology Studios, Jay Choi, said “We are thrilled to have an opportunity to remake a massively successful Hindi film with a touch of originality from Korean cinema. And the remake has greater significance as the first major co-production between Korea and India. Through our partnership, we will be able to bring the best of both Indian and Korean cinema and make a meaningful remake that is as excellent as the original.”
Drishyam was originally made in Malayalam language and after the success of the movie was remade in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, and Tamil languages domestically. The movie also got a Chinese and Indonesian remake.
