Fan is a thriller drama movie directed by Maneesh Sharma, starring Shah Rukh Khan in a double role of a crazy fan Gaurav and his idol Aryan Khanna. Released in 2016, Fan is SRK’s last film preceding his break of four years. Fan, a story of a crazy fan’s obsession with his matinee superstar that doesn’t end well, will remind you of Shah Rukh Khan ‘s famous movie ‘Darr’.
The Storyline of the Movie ‘Fan’ A 20-year-old guy from Delhi, Gaurav Chandana is obsessed with a 40-year-old superstar Aryan Khanna – AK. The reason for obsession slightly lies in the fact that Gaurav looks eerily similar to AK with a slight difference in their nose and teeth.
Every year at the Diwali mela, Gaurav enacts scenes from AK’s movies and this time he wins the competition and is awarded a trophy that he wants to present to his idol Aryan.
Gaurav embarks on his journey to Mumbai following Akshay’s footsteps that are traveling without the ticket on the train just as AK did and staying at the same crumbling hotel where Aryan stayed all those years ago. On reaching Mumbai, Gaurav goes to meet AK at his house, but he gets lost in the crowd of thousands of other fans who also came to see him.
Some other actor, Kapoor, tries to malign AK’s image by falsely accusing AK of hitting him. This doesn’t sit well with Gaurav; in order to avenge Kapoor, he beats him up and records a forceful confession from him, and sends it to Aryan. Aryan, is dismayed to see this and gets Gaurav arrested.
In prison, Gaurav is already in pain due to merciless beatings by the police, and beefing up his sufferings, AK pays him a visit and tells him that he is not his fan.
On returning home, grief-stricken Gaurav destroys every poster and picture of Aryan from his room and sells his cafe. In order to take revenge on Aryan, Gaurav works on himself for a year, improving his diction and mannerisms for a better impersonation of Aryan.
Gaurav misbehaves with people at various places of importance like Madame Tussauds in London and in Dubrovnik.
Gaurav enters Aryan’s house in India by fooling his wife and traumatizes his family. All such incidents led to negative publicity of Aryan, hence hampering his career and professional agreements.
AK decides to meet Gaurav and settle this once and for all. Aryan reaches Delhi and talks to Gaurav’s parents; while Gaurav has some other plan, he calls AK at the Diwali mela and asks him to apologize publicly.
However, at the Diwali mela, Aryan starts behaving like Gaurav, and just when he was about to tell Gaurav’s truth to everyone, Gaurav, who was watching all of this from afar, fires a bullet at AK, but he misses.
After a long chase and fight between the two, Aryan forgives Gaurav while Gaurav shoots himself. Before shooting himself, Gaurav, in his last words, told AK that both of them are bound together now; whenever AK’s name would be taken, Gaurav’s name would be taken along with it.
