Generally, people will always talk about paranormal movies ever since the time that they were first released. This is because they are simply terrifying and very innovative. The producers of these films would want to make sure that the audience will finish watching these movies up to the end credits believing that there is something or someone out there watching over them all night.
Horror movies are always here to stay and paranormal movies will make sure that this genre will last forever. With their suspenseful narrative and special effects, these films are more than just a jump scare. That is why it’s not surprising that these films shine above the rest. The following are five of the best paranormal films:
The Ring (2002)
The story of The Ring revolves around a deadly VHS tape. It all started when Rachel (portrayed by Naomi Watts), a reporter who is doing a story about the death of a teen girl, discovered the fatal VHS tape. Rachel found out that when somebody watches the tape, they will be given seven days until they die. Samara (portrayed by Daveigh Chase) is the evil spirit who is killing those people who watched the tape. Rachel wanted to save herself and the people around her, so she did everything she could before time ran out.
Regardless of the fact that The Ring has an unfinished script, it still went into production. The possessed spirit that emerges out of the VHS is just the supernatural counterpart of a chain mail that nobody wants to get. There were sequel movies after this film which are just as terrifying as the first one.
The Exorcist (1973)
When Regan (portrayed by Linda Blair) was still young, she was possessed by the evil spirit of Pazuzu. To take out the demon from her, the family resorted to exorcism. However, as Regan’s condition gets worst, she becomes a threat to the people around her. The evil spirit and Regan were both fightings for power while her family considered the fact that she could hurt them. The most notable effects of the film are the 360-degree rotation of the head and the projectile vomiting.
The Exorcist is one of the most horrifying films of all time. If you want to watch this film on your mobile device, then be sure to protect your phone from hackers. Although The Exorcist was not the first paranormal film ever created, this film broke barriers that no other horror movies had accomplished during that time. Several people who had watched this film experienced heart attacks and vomiting while watching the movie. Until now, The Exorcist still stands out as one of the scariest classic horror movies that ever existed.
Paranormal Activity (2009)
This film is considered one of the most horrifying movies of all time. Paranormal Activity uses the capability of a home camera while documenting the story of a young couple living in their new home. According to Micah Sloat and Katie Featherston, they’ve experienced strange things in their home so they’ve decided to capture it by installing several cameras in their home. This film includes the footage that was captured, as you will see in the film each moment becomes more fatal by the minute. Is there some truth in Paranormal Activity?
Despite the fact that Paranormal Activity has a very low budget, it still manages to do some extraordinary things which no other horror movies have ever done before, creating a whole new perspective of supernatural films. Up until now, this series still continues to scare everyone. Watch out for the final installment of Paranormal Activity which will be released sometime in 2023.
The Conjuring (2013)
What would you do, if you were living in a haunted house? This movie follows the story of the Perron family as they transferred into a new home. After discovering that a killer witch once lived in their home, the Perrons seek the help of demonologists Lorraine (played by Vera Farmiga) and Ed (played by Patrick Wilson) to know what’s really happening. As the witch entered their home, the family found themselves on the chopping block, making it impossible to save them. The Conjuring was followed by several sequels as the Warrens tried to save the others from the deadly paranormal that they are confronting. While the fourth installment is still in production, it seems that there is no end to this terror.
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
The Blair Witch Project is a film that involves three filmmaking students, Mike (played by Michael C Leonard), Josh (played by Joshua Leonard), and Heather (played by Rei Hance), who are planning to create a documentary about the Blair Witch. However, they do not expect to discover more, apart from its minor history.
What makes this horror movie so successful and scary is that a documentary-style approach was used in the film. Since only a specific point of view can be seen, the audience must fill in the gaps to what actually happened.
As the story continues, these students realize that there was a serial killer who once lived in the woods. Despite knowing that the woods are haunted, they still want to find out what really happened. Unfortunately, as they unravel the truth, they are seen by the spirit that haunts the woods. As a result, these three students become victims themselves.
