The Storyline of the Movie ‘Gold.’ The movie opens with India’s national hockey team winning at the Berlin Olympics and the national anthem about to be played. But the year is 1936, and it is British India’s national hockey team that wins; hence Britain’s national anthem is played after the victory.
At that moment. The team’s manager, Tapan vows to win the gold for free India. Similar emotions are generated within the other boys as well.
The Olympics don’t take place in the subsequent years because of World War II. Alongside World War II were India’s freedom struggle and partition. During this time, Tapan found solace in alcohol.
Tapan got back on track when the 1948 Olympics are announced. He is fueled by the fire of seeking revenge from the British Raj by winning a Gold at the Olympics and seeing the Indian tricolor furling in Great Britain.
However, Tapan is faced with many obstacles along the way, partition dividing the team into the half with each half on either side of the border, office politics, and jealousy when Tapan is chosen as the team manager.
Tapan’s clarity for his goal is what gets him through every challenge that comes his way. During the movie, he often says, “Hum Ek Pagal Bengali Hain, Hum Hockey Se Pyaar Karta Hai, Apna Desh se Pyaar Karta Hai
When the aim is that crystal clear, no one can stop you from achieving, and that is what happens in ‘Gold’; Tapan manages to lead the National Indian Hockey Team to win a gold in the Olympics and defeat the team of Britain in the finals.
