Who Is J Hope?
정호석 (Jung Ho-Seok) also known as 제이홉 (J-Hope) is a well known personality. He became famous after his worldwide famous song Chicken Soup. J-Hope made his debut as a member of Bangtan Boys in 2013 under Big Hit Entertainment. He was the third member to join the group after RM and Jimin.
Early Life and Education
Jung Ho-Seok was born in Gwangju, South Korea on February 18th, 1994. He lived with his parents and an older sister. Before BTS, J-Hope was a part of an underground dance team known as Neuron. Back in 2008, he won a national dance competition in South Korea. After succeeding in dancing he tried singing and rapping too which led him on the way to his success. As a trainee, J-Hope was featured as a rapper in Jo Kwon’s song ‘Animal’ which came out in 2012. In March 2019, J-Hope enrolled at Hanyang Cyber University for Masters of Business Administration program in Advertising and Media.
Family
J-Hope lived in a nuclear family which consisted of his mother, father and an elder sister. J-Hope’s Mother: Mrs. Ho Seok, J-Hope’s Father: Mr. Ho Seok and
J-Hope’s Elder Sister: Jung Ji- woo.
According to some sources his father is a businessman and his mother is a housewife but she used to work earlier to support J- Hope. On the other hand, his elder sister is pretty famous because she is an entrepreneur. Jung Ji-woo has her own fashion brand famously known as Merjiwoo on Instagram. She has more than 11 Million followers on the respective platform too.
Career
In 2013, J-Hope made his debut as a member of BTS on Mnet’s M! Countdown with the track ‘No More Dream’ from their debut single album ‘2 Cool 4 Skool’. After RM and Suga, J-Hope made an entry in BTS. So, he was the third member of the group. Since then J-Hope has been a part of every album.
In March 2018, he released his first solo mixtape, Hope World and also a music video for title track for song ‘Daydream’. The extended play peaked at number 38 on the Billboard 200, which made it the highest K-pop solo act at that time. Hope world peaked at 19 on the US Top Rap Albums chart and 35 on the Canadian Album’s Chart. The following week the songs peaked all over the world. ‘Daydream’ peaked at top on the chart and made J-hope one of only ten K-Pop groups, including his band BTS, to reach number one.
After his achievement, he made it to rank 3rd on the emerging artists chart. Around March 10 he was ranked 97th on the Artist 100 chart of the week and 91st in the next week. After Psy he was the second korean soloist to rank under Artist 100 chart.
In 2019, J-Hope released ‘Chicken Noodle Soup’, with an American artist Becky G. This song also succeeded and ranked at Number 81 on the Billboard Hot 100 with 9.7 million streams and 11k downloads. J-Hope became the first BTS member to rank on Hot 100 chart and third korean soloist. This song was also ranked 1st on the World Digital Songs Chart.
During these years BTS released many songs and because of their hard work most of the songs succeeded and got famous all around the world like Boy With Luv, Fake Luv, DNA, Butter, Permission to Dance and many more. All the members got so much love from people.

Recently, J-Hope has become the brand ambassador of Louis Vuitton. He posted many pictures on his instagram account with #outfit as a caption. Controversies
There are not as many controversies about J-Hope. But recently, some chinese fans put a hoarding to promote J- Hope’s recent album ‘Jack in the box’. But the main issue which became a controversy was spelling.
Yes, you read it right. So the fan wanted to write ‘Rapper’. But instead of that he wrote ‘Raper’. After which the board was taken down.
Other than that, there are many controversies about BTS, some people say they are racist and some say they are rude. One of the controversies is, In 2015, RM got death threats because of the public racist statement he made during an interview “when I first saw V and J-Hope I couldn’t see them because they were too black.” They returned to Korea because they were getting death threats.
Dealing With Hate/Problems
J-Hope is the most criticised member of BTS. He has expressed many times that people hate him because he is ugly. He gets hate comments on his Social media handle. In 2019, Gallup company released a list of 20 most loved artists of South Korea. Every member was a part of that list except J-Hope.

Along with that Bangtan Boys are criticised all over the world, because of their look.
During the documentary ‘Burn The Stage’, J-Hope revealed that he even planned to leave BTS and was about to pursue his solo dance career, but then Jungkook who is the youngest in all of them cried and stopped J-Hope to leave the band.
J-Hope once said in a video that no one messages him on his page but after some hit songs his mail was full of messages and love.

Jungkook day was celebrated on 2 september 2022. Basically, Jungkook day is a celebration of the BTS member’s birthday. Every year his birthday is celebrated worldwide.
J- Hope shared a tweet and wished Jungkook in a very unique way by sharing a video of his ‘Hope Album’. He further added a hashtag which said ‘September Husband’ which was not definitely meant for Jungkook.
His Contributions To The Society
The Green Noble Club comprises of people who have donated a sum of at least ₩100 million to ChildFund Korea. In 2019, J-Hope donated ₩100 million for the students who are attending school or university in Gwangju. He also has done private donations. Around November 2020 he donated ₩100 for the children who faced economic difficulties during Covid-19. J-Hope turned 27 on February 18th and he donated ₩150 million to the children with visual and hearing impairments. Last but not the least, he donated ₩100 million for the children who were affected by violence in Tanzania, Africa.
