Directed by Shakun Batra, Kapoor and Sons goes from light comic to proper melodrama which happens in mostly every middle class family. On the opening day, the film collected 6.85 crores in India. Just after some days the film gained popularity as it also depicts the life and problems of gay person.
The movie stars some famous stars like Rishi Kapoor, Siddharth Malhotra who recently was a protagonist in Shershaah , Fawad Khan who played a role in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Alia Bhatt.

Kapoor and Sons- Storyline Rahul and Arjun are forced to return back to their old home in Coonoor because their 90 year old grandfather had a heart attack. Rahul, who lives in London is a successful novelist while on the other hand Arjun, who lives in Newark is trying hard to get his novel published. So to make some money he works as a bartender.
Their parents always praise Rahul in front of Arjun which he doesn’t like and that is why they both struggle to get along and have a proper conversation. On the other hand, Sunita, their mother, wants to open a catering business but her husband Harsh doesn’t permit her. They both also struggle to get along because earlier Harsh had an affair.
While staying in the hospital, Amarjeet tells them that he has a last wish to click a family picture and title it as “Kapoor And Sons.” One day, Sunita finds out that Harsh broke her FD to pay some loans. She confronts him and they both end up in a heated argument. Furthermore, Arjun and Rahul also become the part of their argument and Arjun angrily leaves the house.
He goes to a party and meets Tia there. They befriend each other and get attracted towards each other. Next day, during a property survey, Rahul also meets Tia and they both become friends. He drops her to her place and they both find out that a power is out. Rahul tries to fix the problem and Tia kisses him.
Arjun and Tia plan to go on a date when Arjun reveals that maybe Rahul is plagiarising his work as his bestselling novel has the same story but different ending. He further says that he doesn’t want to confront him because he wants to avoid another family drama.
The Kapoor family throws a birthday party on Amarjeet’s birthday. Arjun gets to know that Rahul and Tia know each other and gets suspicious about their relationship. Rahul later tells him that he is already seeing someone in London. Harsh invites Anu, with whom he had an extra- marital affair. Sunita and Harsh start arguing with each other again but end up solving the things while Harsh apologises.
Tia tells Arjun about her past on her birthday that her parents were in Canada due to a family emergency and missed her birthday so during the last phone call she yelled at them and asked them to never come back home and unfortunately their plane crashes and they both die.
The family plans to click a picture together but some secrets spoil the plan. Rahul finds out that his father is still in a relationship with Anu. Sunita finds out that Rahul is in a relationship with a boy and Tia confronts everything to Arjun about the kiss with Rahul. Everything gets messed up and Harsh angrily leaves the home in the car. Later on a truck hit his car and he died.
After the funeral both of them leave for their respective houses. After four months they receive another call from Amarjeet to click a family picture. During the family picture they place a cut out of Harsh’s photo and later on Arjun clears out everything with Tia.
