Karan Johar and Kareena Kapoor have always been very thick with the former always referring to her as his sister.
It’s no secret that Indian filmmaker and Koffee with Karan Season 7 host Karan Johar and Kareena Kapoor (seen opposite Aamir Khan in Laal Singh Chaddha), one of the leading actresses of Tinseltown, are close friends. They are a part of each other’s intimate circles and constantly keep in touch with each other via WhatsApp groups and telephonic conversations, exchanging gossip about the B-Town.
On an episode of the fifth season of Koffee With Karan, where Kareena appeared with Sonam Kapoor (last seen in AK vs Ak), she revealed that her husband, Saif Ali Khan (who played the role of Inspector Vikram in Vikram Vedha), is extremely secure as she only speaks to her manager, her sister, and Karan Johar over the phone.
Apart from having a special personal relationship, Karan Johar and Kareena Kapoor have had a phenomenal professional relationship as well. They have worked together in many exceptional movies like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, Bombay Talkies, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, We Are Family and Kurbaan.
Being best friends, Kareena and Karan have one thing in common, they manage to stay in the news headlines for right and wrong reasons!
Kareena is a celebrated actress and is considered to be the best at that but it is her personal life that always steals the show! Be it her relationship with the national crush of India Shahid Kapoor (recently seen in the Farzi series), their breakup, her live-in relationship with Saif Ali Khan, her wedding, her kids, Taimur and Jeh, and not to forget her gym looks! She manages to stay in the news at all times.
On the other hand, Karan Johar has given some of the best movies to Indian Cinema, he is a fab host, and his show Koffee With Karan is the longest-running English language show in India, but that’s not what keeps him in the news. His sexuality is what captivates the nation!
Selfie producer Karan has always maintained silence when it came to his sexuality citing that it’s nobody’s business. He opened up about it for the very first time, in his autobiography, An Unsuitable Boy, he said,
“Everybody knows what my sexual orientation is. I don’t need to scream it out. If I need to spell it out, I won’t, only because I live in a country where I could possibly be jailed for saying this. Which is why I, Karan Johar, will not say the three words that possibly everybody knows about me.”
Supplementing his previous statement, he also said,
“I have never talked about my orientation or sexuality because whether I’m heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, or asexual, it is my concern. I refuse to talk about it… I have not been brought up to talk about my sex life. I know I’m the butt of many jokes, pun intended. I know how my sexuality is discussed. I have become like the poster boy of homosexuality in this country.”
So, when he said that he would marry someone like Kareena Kapoor, it raised many eyebrows.
“I would marry Kareena Kapoor in a heartbeat,” says Karan Johar, Karan has always expressed his love for one of the top 10 hottest actresses of Bollywood, Kareena Kapoor as an actor and as a person on various platforms. Kareena has also never shied away from calling Karan an essential part of her life!
On celebrity stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania’s chat show, Feet Up with the Stars, when Karan was asked if he had to marry any film actress, which actress he would choose in a heartbeat. Without batting an eye, Karan said it would be one of the most Googled celebrities of 2022, Kareena Kapoor!
He further added that she is fun, fabulous, hot, entertaining, and fiercely loyal and if he was interested in dating or marrying a woman it would be Kareena or someone like Kareena.
A few years back, citing their closeness there were many rumors doing rounds that Karan Johar is secretly in love with Kareena Kapoor and the duo share a relationship that goes beyond the realms of friendship.
Having said that, Karan and Kareena have always maintained that they are good friends and more like family to each other and such rumors questioning the sanctity of their relationship don’t affect them. Karan has referred to Kareena as his sister numerous times on Koffee With Karan.
One such incident was when Gully Boy starrer Ranveer Singh during his appearance on Koffee With Karan with Anushka Sharma (last spotted in Netflix’s Qala), mentioned that Kareena Kapoor turned him from a boy to a man when he saw her swimming at the Otters club. Karan replied that he could be offended by that statement as Kareena is like a sister to him.
An Ugly Fight between Kareena Kapoor and Karan Johar
Often touted to be best of friends, Karan and Kareena have been in each other’s lives for over two decades now and the duo considers each other family. As every rose has its thorn, there was a time when Karan Johar and Kareena Kapoor had a falling out and didn’t speak to each other for an entire year!
Karan mentioned this incident in his autobiography. He said this began when Kareena refused to be a part of Kal Ho Naa Ho over remuneration issues. She wanted equal pay as Shah Rukh Khan (last appeared in and as Pathaan) and Karan didn’t believe that asking an equal amount as Shah Rukh Khan was unfair on Kareena’s part! Recollecting the incident, Karan mentioned that he was deeply hurt by Kareena.
Later, Preity Zinta (seen alongside Shah Rukh Khan in various movies counting in Dil Se, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Kal Ho Naa Ho, and Veer Zara) was roped in for the role and Karan and Kareena moved on with their lives, and decided to maintain their distance. Nevertheless, they said that they had too much fondness for each other to not be a part of each other’s lives and decided to resolve their issues and be friends again.
KJo’s Dating Life
Karan Johar’s romantic life has consistently been a topic of interest for the audience. His linkup rumors began when he was first linked up with My Name is Khan starrer Shah Rukh Khan owing to their closeness. Both of them have brushed off these rumors time and again stating that they are ridiculous and they share a brotherly bond.
Karan Johar has also been linked with various other actors that he has worked with including Ranveer Singh (who played a double role in Cirkus movie) and Sidharth Malhotra (recently seen in Thank God and Mission Majnu). Nevertheless, these rumors didn’t see the light of day as they were discounted by the respective individuals over and over again.
Although there’s one rumor that hasn’t seemed to die down over the years even after the silence from both individuals, that is, Karan Johar and Manish Malhotra’s secret relationship. They always maintain that they have a rock-solid friendship that has grown stronger over the years and nothing more than that.
In spite of numerous speculations popping up in the media frequently, Karan Johar has always been quite secretive and silent about his relationships. There isn’t any mention of any of his partners in the media by him.
The very first mention of his dating life came from the talented filmmaker in his autobiography, where he mentioned that he was left heartbroken by one of his partners, and the script of his blockbuster movie ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ is loosely based on that relationship of his.
Spilling some beans about his sex life in the same book, he said that he lost his virginity at the age of twenty-six and for a large part of his teenage and early twenties he considered himself to be asexual as he wasn’t comfortable with the idea of sex.
Later, he mentioned in several episodes of Koffee With Karan that he has a sexless and loveless romantic life and he is in fact a recycled virgin!
