Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani definitely won the hearts of the audience and broke all box office records when it was released in 2015. The grand set, the royal outfits, the cast, the dialogues, everything was nothing less than perfection. Today no one can imagine the movie being made in any other way or with any other cast.
What if we tell you Ranveer and Deepika were not the original preference for the movie? Sanjay Leela Bhansali, in a recent interview, revealed that he had been planning the movie since 2000. His original choice for the movie was Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
The duo had an undeniable on-screen and off-screen chemistry and the director wanted to make the most out of it. But after Salman and Aishwarya’s ugly breakup, the actress denied even sharing screen space with the former. Bhansali then put the project on hold as he did not find any other actress fit for his vision of Mastani.
Salman Khan was so keen on doing the project that one random day he went to Bhansali and introduced Katrina Kaif to him as his Mastani. SLB did not find Katrina fit for the role.

Bhansali once again tried to revive his project with Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor
After a huge gap of 12 years, the director tried to revive the project once again with Ajay Devgn. Apparently, the actor asked for an unreasonable fee and the idea was dropped once again.
