If you’re from the Parle-G eating generation then it’s a no-brainer that Shaktimaan was a huge part of your growing-up years. To say that Shaktimaan was only a superhero, would be unfair to the marvel he was. He was a guiding light for the 90s kids, he showed what is right and what is wrong. Everyone wanted to grow up to be like him, well if that wish would’ve come true then I’m sure we would be living in a happier and safer world.
Just to brush up on your memory, here’s a teeny-tiny summary of the show. It is centered around the protagonist, Shaktimaan, and how he helps people around him using his powers while trying to hide his identity from the world.
Shaktimaam got all seven chakras activated through his devotion to God, bestowing upon him complete mastery of Earth, Fire, Water, Wind, and Life; the five elements of life.
This superpower of Shaktimaan made him, capable of doing anything and everything he desires but he uses it for the good and to destroy the bad. Mukesh Khanna was extremely convincing in his role as Shaktimaan winning the hearts of an entire generation from 1997 to 2005.
When Sony Pictures announced that they are bringing back Shaktimaan in a trilogy movie series, everyone was exhilarated. Sony Pictures dropped the bomb on 22 February 2022 via their official Twitter handle, stating, “After the success of our many superhero films in India and all over the globe, it’s time for our desi Superhero!”

Have they Began Filming The Movie Shaktimaan? Unfortunately, the filming of the movie hasn’t begun yet. Still, there are some doubts about who should direct the movie and we have the famous Bollywood vs South Film Industry battle about who’s better!
With makers not wanting to rope in a Bollywood director, per them, they need a serious director that can do justice to the legacy of Shaktimaan, they are keen to sign in Basil Joseph to don the director’s hat.
A source close to the movie revealed to Pinkvilla that,
‘Shaktimaan is a franchise that has the potential to change the game for Hindi Cinema; hence, the team is being very cautious with their choice of director. Mukesh Khanna has made the character a household name and the idea is to carry the legacy forward by reintroducing him to today’s audience.
They have been talking to several top directors and as of now, Basil Joseph is the first runner to be at the helm of affairs, as all the meetings have met with a positive response.’
We are looking forward to Basil’s work in Shaktimaan as Basil Joseph isn’t a novice in working on superhero action movies, he has directed a full-fledged Malayalam superhero film, Minnal Murali, starring the likes of Tovino Thomas and Guru Somadundaran, so he definitely knows what to do and how to do!!
Release Date of The Movie Shaktimaan As we mentioned earlier Shaktimaan movie will be released in three parts over the span of a few years. The movie was announced in 2022 and we don’t have an official release date from the makers yet. We can hope for a September to December 2023 release date, considering the time required for filming, production, and post-production work.
One thing is for sure coming together of Sony Pictures and Bheeshma International will prove to be very fruitful for the movie as well as the audience as Sony Pictures is behind superhero films like Spiderman and on the other hand Bheeshma International is the reason we have had Shaktimaan in our childhood.
We aren’t sure when we will get to watch the movie that made our childhood golden but one thing is for sure whenever we do we’ll be hit by nostalgia big time!

Expacted Storyline of The Movie Shaktimaan The makers want to keep the buzz around the movie alive, hence they are keeping everything under wraps as far as the storyline is considered.
However, Mukesh Khanna revealed in an interview that, keeping in mind the time we are in, Shaktimaan’s character is being tailored to meet the modern-day requirements without changing his original essence even a bit. Uncovering some details about the plot of the movie, Mukesh Khanna said,
“The movie is being made by the makers of Spiderman, but, Shaktimaan will be desi. I have prepared the story of the film in my own way. My only condition to them was that they wouldn’t change the story.”
Budget for The Movie Shaktimaan Bringing our ‘bachpan ka superhero’ back to the screens has a staggering budget of ₹300 crores. It was brought to light by the Shaktimaan himself in an interview with Amar Ujala he said,
“This project has come to me after many years. People used to tell me to make Shaktimaan 2. I didn’t want to bring Shaktimaan back on TV. After internal talks, I joined hands with the Sony people and later made the news public. People want to know what’s happening next. Now, what should I tell them? This is a big film of at least Rs 300 crore. Can’t tell much about it till everything is finalized.”
Star Cast of The Movie Shaktimaan Kitu Gidwani, Gsishnavi, Surendra Pal, and Tom Alter are some of the artists, who were seen in significant roles throughout the TV run of the show.
Ever since the movie is announced, the entire nation has been perplexed with only one question, WHO WILL PLAY SHAKTIMAAN??
We wouldn’t want to see anyone else as Shaktimaan except the man himself, that is, Mukesh Khanna, however, we can’t ignore his age and certain requirements that are demanded by a superhero action movie. So, if not him then who?
Mukesh Khanna divulged that she has been stuck in the same question as finding someone who has enough audience pulls and can do justice to the legacy of Shaktimaan at the same time is quite a task, he said,
“People ask who will become Shaktimaan? This is also a very big question in itself, which I will not answer, but it is also certain that without Mukesh Khanna there will be no Shaktimaan because if someone else becomes Shaktimaan, then the entire nation will not accept him.”
As revealed by Mukesh Khanna, writer, and producer of the movie, we don’t have any official confirmation from the makers about the star cast, however, there have been multiple reports that Ranveer Singh has been roped in for the role of the protagonist Shaktimaan. Don’t be disheartened as going by the reports, the OG superhero, Mukesh Khanna will have a cameo in the film beyond any doubt.
As far as the female lead is concerned the status is pretty much the same, no name has been finalized yet, however, makers are in talks to approach either Deepika Padukone or Alia Bhatt .
